STORY

Long before Roger Wilco defeated the evil Sariens… long before his

name became known throughout the galaxy… Roger was just a simple

janitor aboard a Labion Space Station.

But Roger has a guilty secret - he likes taking naps.  A lot!  And upon

waking from one of his naps in the janitor’s supply cupboard… he

emerges to find the entire crew slaughtered, and the entire station on

the brink of destruction!  Even more puzzling… who is that blue woman,

and what is she doing on the station?

After some investigation, he discovers a plot involving an army of

clones programmed to destroy Labion.  And the mastermind behind

this plot is… Dr Vohaul!  You may not know that name yet, but he will

soon become your arch nemeses.  You HAVE to put a stop to this army

of clones, before they are unleashed upon the galaxy.  But before you

can do that, you have to escape from this space station.

Go forth, and stop the clone army, Roger!

GAMEPLAY

Space Quest 0:  Replicated is an excellent fan game, and is an unofficial

prequel to the very first Space Quest game.

The game uses a combination of the traditional text parser (meaning

you type in commands through your keyboard), and a menu-based

system (click your mouse at top of the screen) to interact with the

game world.

The text parser controls your actions, and you have the freedom to try

anything you want.  For example, if you want to ‘Lick Wires‘, go ahead.

Or how about ‘Jump Into lava‘, or ‘Hit Bartender’, or ‘Dance With Guard‘.

You can try anything you want, although you may not always like the

result.  Pressing the Tab key on your keyboard gives you a list of items

you are carrying, while ‘Examine [Inventory Item]’ gives more of a

description of it.  Pressing F3 on your keyboard repeats the last thing

you typed, which is very handy if you weren’t quite in the correct

position.

Movement is controlled by using the Cursor keys, or by clicking your

mouse where you want to move.

The menu-based system (click your mouse at top of the screen, or

press Esc on your keyboard to see it) allows you to Save, Restore,

Restart, or Quit your game.  I recommend you Save your game often,

using different Save slots, because you can die in this game.  A lot.  I

also found a couple of dead ends, meaning that if you use an item at

the wrong time, you will have lost that item, and not be able to use it

when you’re supposed to, thus you won’t be able to complete the

game.  So please, Save early, and Save often!  The Speed Menu has 4

different pre-set options - Normal, Slow, Fast, Fastest.  You can change

Speed at any time, to suit your preference.

The humour in this game is just wonderful.  There are many wonderful

references to other games and films, but my favourite has to be the

Lord Of The Rings reference!  Much as I love this game, there is a

horrendous cable maze near the end, which is VERY tricky.

GRAPHICS

The game uses AGI graphics, so it really fits in with the early Space

Quest games.  It really feels like it could have come out before Space

Quest 1.  I love these old AGI graphics!

The Labion Station that Roger starts out in, is shaped like a giant

joypad, which is an amusing touch.  I also loved the screaming tree, and

the cute little hut on the planet surface.  And the variety of aliens found

in the Space Port is very impressive.

Text is displayed at bottom of the screen, while conversations are

shown in a text box in middle of the screen.  Inventory items can be

examined for clues when you EXAMINE an item.

There is so much to explore and love about Space Quest 0:  Replicated!

SOUND AND MUSIC

The familiar theme tune is heard during the opening credits.  However,

apart from that, there is not much sound.  A Ding is heard whenever

Roger picks up an item, or performs a correct action.  The Labion tree

gives an ear-piercing scream when you take the branch.  The generators

hum loudly to show they are working.  And the sound of falling is heard

when Roger falls from a height.  The most impressive sounds, is the

music heard in the Space Port Bar.

Give the game a try - you won’t be disappointed!
