KING'S QUEST 1: QUEST FOR THE CROWN

WALKTHROUGH (AGD INTERACTIVE)

This walkthrough was written by Frodo

for The Daventry Chronicles

 

 

 

You begin your adventures outside the castle portcullis.  If you watched

the intro, you’ll know that King Edward has quested you with finding

the 3 lost treasures of the kingdom - the magic mirror, the magic

shield, and the magic chest.  If you succeed in finding those treasures,

you inherit the throne.  

​

Walk left twice.  Walk behind the rock, and push it to reveal a small

hole.  Look into the hole, and get DAGGER

​

Head up one screen, and look at the oak tree.  Climb the tree.   Wow, 
there’s a giant nest with a golden egg here.  Carefully make your way

along the branch, and get the GOLDEN EGG.  Now carefully make your

way back along the branch to climb back down the tree.  Don’t worry if

you fall out tree - you will survive the fall.

​

Go right one screen.  There’s a huge carrot patch here.  Look at the

carrot patch, and then pick a CARROT.  Now it may look tasty, but

don’t eat it!  You’ll need it later!  

​

Walk right twice.  Walk into middle of the screen, and your Fairy God-
mother will appear, casting a Protective Spell on you.  Isn’t that nice 
of her?  When she is finished, head up one screen.  

​

You’ve reached the Clover Patch.  Look at the clover patch to see there

is an unusual clover in the middle - pick the FOUR-LEAF CLOVER.  Well,

you know what they say about 4-leaf leafed clovers being lucky!  

​

Walk up one screen to the Troll Bridge (but don’t attempt to cross it

yet), then head left twice to see a bowl lying on the ground . Look at

bowl twice (note how it says ‘FILL‘ on the inside), and then pick up the

BOWL.  

​

Walk down one screen.  An elf should appear.  If not, then leave the 


screen and immediately return again, until the elf appears.  Walk over

to the elf, and talk to him.  The little elf is touched by your kindness,

and gives you a JEWELLED RING in return.  He tells you that the ring is

magical, and it will make you invisible, but it will only work one time.  

​

Walk left twice and down twice (watch out for the wolf), so you are at

the beach.  Look at pebbles on the sand, and then get PEBBLES.  

​

Go down 3 times, and then right once.  There’s a Walnut Tree here,

with a squirrel scampering back & forth.  Pick up a WALNUT from the

ground, and use it on yourself to discover it’s pure gold inside.  

​

Walk left twice and look at the house.  Now this tasty-looking house

actually belongs to an evil witch, so you have to be careful.  Eat the

wall (use hand icon).  If you hear the witch talking, leave screen, then

return and try again.  When there is no-one home, enter the house.  

​

Inside the house, quickly make your way into the bedroom, and hide

behind the doorway.  Wait for the witch to appear.  When she does,

sneak up behind her and push her into the cauldron.  Yippee, the witch

is dead!  Now go back into the bedroom, and pick up NOTE from the

bedside table.  Use it on yourself to read it - ‘Sometimes it is wise to

think backwards’.  Hmmm, I wonder what that could mean.  Now leave

the bedroom, and open cabinet next to the cauldron.  Take CHEESE

from the cabinet, and then leave the house.  

​

Head up twice, so you are outside the Woodcutter’s Cottage.  Enter 
cottage, and listen to the Woodcutter’s sad tale.  Him and his wife are

starving.  Remember that BOWL you found earlier?  Use BOWL on

yourself, and it fills up with stew.  Now give BOWL to the Woodcutter -

he feeds his wife the stew, and then thanks you.  He gives you his

fiddle to show his appreciation, so take FIDDLE from the table.  Now

leave the cottage.  

​

Walk up one screen and left one screen.  There’s a log and a tree 
stump here.  Approach the tree stump, and look inside the tree stump

to see a pouch.  Get POUCH, and then use POUCH on yourself to

discover it‘s filled with diamonds.  

​

Go up one screen to reach the goat paddock.  Nice goat!  Open gate,

and walk up to goat - you may have to follow it to the next 
screen.  Show CARROT to goat, to make him follow you.  Now 
leave the paddock.  

​

Walk down, left, and down twice, so you are at the troll bridge.  Now 
this is a troll bridge… you have a goat with you.  Goats and trolls 
don’t mix well.  Walk onto bridge, and the troll will appear.  Now get 
out of the way quickly, while the goat takes care of your problem.  


Heeheehee!  The goat trots off now, to explore on his own.  Now that 
the troll is gone, simply cross the bridge, and walk left to next screen.  

There’s an old gnome here, spinning straw on his spinning wheel.  Talk

to the gnome, and he’ll challenge you to guess his name correctly.  If

you get his name right, he’ll give you a reward.  Now you may have

guessed his name is Rumplestiltskin.  But simply typing out his name

won’t work.  Remember the note back in the witch’s house -

Sometimes it’s wise to think backwards’.  But typing out his name

backwards won’t work either.  We have to think outside the box.  Let’s

take a look at the alphabet:

So taking the letters that spell ‘Rumplestiltskin’, and compare it to the 
corresponding backwards alphabet, we can work out his name - 
IFNKOVHGROGHPRM (try pronouncing that, lol).  Well done Graham,

you guessed his name correctly!  He gives you some MAGIC BEANS as a

reward.  Now walk right, cross the troll bridge, and go right again.  

​

Look at the beautiful flower patch.  Walk onto the flower patch, and

use MAGIC BEANS on the flower patch to plant them.  Wow, that was

a fast-growing beanstalk.  Climb the beanstalk, Saving occasionally

until you reach the top.    

​

When you’re standing on the cloud, SAVE HERE.  Now walk right 3 
screens, until you see the giant.  SAVE HERE again.  The giant will 
try and chase you, but being a giant, he tires easily.  Play a game of 
Chase’, making sure to keep that tree in between you and the giant - 
he’ll soon tire out and lie down to sleep.  Get CHEST from next to the 
sleeping giant.  This is one of the 3 magic treasures you were 
looking for.  

​

Walk down one screen and right one screen.  Notice the tree with a 
hole in the bottom.  Look in hole, and get the SLINGSHOT from hole.  

​

Walk up one screen to the cave, and enter the cave.  SAVE HERE.  


Make your way down the long, long, long walkway (make sure you Save

every so often).  When you finally reach the bottom, open door and

leave the cave.  

​

Back outside, you find yourself on solid ground again.  Walk left twice,

and then down to the well.  

​

Use your DAGGER to cut rope on the well, and get the BUCKET.  Turn

crank on the right of the well to lower the rope, and then use rope to

climb down into the well.  

​

Inside the well, jump into the water, and fill your BUCKET with water.

 Now dive under the water, and swim down and left through the small

hole.  Don’t waste time exploring this screen - you can’t hold your

breath long enough.  Swim up through the small pond, and surface

again.   

​

Go left to next screen, and come face to face with a scary dragon.  
YIKES!  But if you filled your bucket in the well, you should be okay.  

The dragon is sleeping right now - throw your BUCKET OF WATER on

the dragon to douse it flames.  The dragon can no longer defend

itself, and crawls away to sulk.  Get the MIRROR, which is leaning

against a rock.  This is another of the magic treasures.  Use

MIRROR on yourself to see a glimpse of the future.  Head left into the

cave-maze, and follow path to the exit.  

​

Outside the cave entrance, there is a condor flying past every so often.

 Now this bit is VERY tricky!  You have to grab hold of the condor’s feet,

and it’s VERY tricky to get it right.  Notice the small rocks near right

side of the screen - you have to stand exactly at the point.  Hover your

Hand cursor over mouth of the cave.  When you hear the condor, try

and click on him when he flies in front of the cave.  Like I said, it’s very

tricky to get the timing right.  You get 4 tries before the condor leaves.

 When that happens, leave the screen, then return and try again.  

When you succeed, the condor will carry you to an area you couldn’t

previously access.  

​

When the condor drops you, you are standing next to a hole.  Don’t go

into the hole yet.  Walk left to next screen, and get the MUSHROOM.

 Return right to the hole, and fall down into the hole.  

​

Follow path down and left, until you are greeted by a hungry rat.  Talk

to rat.  Give CHEESE to rat.  His hunger satisfied, he scuttles away.  

​

Open the door, and walk through to the leprechauns room.  Quickly

play your FIDDLE, and watch as they dance a merry jig and zap them-

selves right out of the room.  Continue left, and watch as more

leprechauns dance to the fiddle music, and leave the room one-by-one.

 When the king leaves, take the SCEPTRE, and take the MAGIC SHIELD.

 You now have all 3 treasures.

Walk left to next screen.  SAVE HERE.  There’s a tiny hole here.  

Remember what Alice did in this situation?  Eat the MUSHROOM, and

then go through the hole.  Back out in the open air, you return to

normal size.  

​

Walk up twice and right three times, so you are back outside the castle

portcullis.  Click on portcullis to open it.  

​

Watch final cutscene.  The king is dead… long live the king!  

​

Congratulations King Graham, you have completed the game.
