KING'S QUEST 3 VGA: TO HEIR IS HUMAN

INFAMOUS ADVENTURES WALKTHROUGH

This walkthrough was written by Frodo

for The Daventry Chronicles

You begin your adventures inside Manannan’s house.  For the first part

of the game, Manannan will give you random menial tasks to complete,

and if you don’t complete them in time, he will punish you.  But he does

leave his house every so often, giving you a chance to plan your escape.

As always, SAVE OFTEN!  

​

The tasks are:


CLEAN THE KITCHEN:  The kitchen is on the Ground Floor, behind the

Dining Room.  Go there, and pick up broom from left of the fire place.

 You automatically start sweeping the floor.


EMPTY CHAMBER POT:  The chamber pot is in Manannan’s bedroom.

 Go up to the First Floor, and enter room at top of the stairs.  The pot is

next to the bed.  Pick it up, and empty it out the window.  Leave the

room when you’re done.  


FEED THE CHICKENS:  Go outside, then go right to the chicken coop.

There is some chicken feed behind the coop. Grab a handful of chicken

feed to feed the chickens.  


DUST THE STUDY:  The study is on the Ground Floor.  Just as you enter

the house, there’s a room right in front of you.  Enter it.  Pick up duster

from on top of cabinet on the left, and you automatically start dusting

the room.  Leave the room when you’re done.

MANANNAN’S HOUSE

​

Okay, let’s begin. Walk left, and enter the house. Manannan will appear

in a few seconds, and give you a task to complete - do it.

​

When you are in the hall inside the front door, look at painting in the

stairway. Manannan may come to check up on you after a few minutes,

but just ignore him. After you’ve completed your task, go to the kitchen

on the Ground Floor (if you’re not already there). Go to table on the

right, and pick up MUTTON, BREAD, and FRUIT. Go to shelves on the

left wall and pick up the CLAY BOWL. Go to left of the fireplace (there‘s

a rack hanging on the wall), and take the KNIFE, and take the SPOON.

Walk down to the dining room, and take CUP from shelf on the left.

​

After a while, Manannan tells you he’s going on a journey. When he is

gone, this gives us a chance to explore the house, and begin planning

our strategy to escape.

​

SAVE your game here. Now you must have noticed the cat wandering

around. Well, now that Manannan is gone, look for the cat again - it

could be anywhere in the house. When you find him, walk up to him,

and grab the CAT. You‘ll automatically grab some FUR from him. Hehe,

stupid cat!

​

Go to First Floor (if you’re not already there). Go into Manannan’s

bedroom. Open cupboard on the right and automatically find the

MAGIC MAP. Search on top of the cupboard to find a KEY. Go over to

drawers on the right of the room. Open drawers, and automatically pick

up ROSE ESSENCE. Go over to the vanity drawer in the middle of the

room. Open the drawers and automatically take MIRROR. Now leave

the bedroom.

​

Walk upstairs to the tower. Pick up DEAD FLY. Use the telescope. Now

leave the tower.

​

Make your way down to the Ground Floor, and enter the study. Walk to

cabinet in the bottom-left corner. You have the KEY from Manannan’s

bedroom, so use KEY to unlock cabinet. Wow, there’s a magic WAND

in here - take the WAND and exit the close-up. Now walk over to

bookshelf on the right, and look at the books. Now from bookshelf on

the back wall, pull book at bottom-right shelf to reveal a trapdoor.

SAVE your game here, and walk down the steps into the secret

laboratory. If the cat is here, it will trip you up and make you fall down

the stairs, so go back up the steps, then come back down.

​

Continue down steps to the bottom, making sure you don’t fall. Walk

over to the shelves at the back wall. The shelves are filled with jars of

stuff. Search through the shelves, and pick up TOAD SPITTLE, TOAD-

STOOL POWDER, SAFFRON, NIGHTSHADE JUICE, MANDRAKE ROOT

POWDER, and POWDERED FISH BONE.

SAVE your game here.

Now click on the Spell Book on table at the bottom to get a close-up.

Each spell is represented by a picture. You’re ready to prepare your first

spell - ‘Flying Like An Eagle Or A Fly‘.

​

 

 

 

Flying Like An Eagle Or A Fly

Click on picture of the bird on the right-hand page to cast the spell.

You can now fly at will. Congratulations.

​

​

​

 

Leave the lab, and head back up to the study. Again, watch out for the

cat. Back in the study, you have to cover your tracks, so Manannan

won’t know what you’re up to. Pull book on the bookshelf to close the

trap door. Use KEY to unlock cabinet on the left, and return WAND to

the cabinet, then exit the close-up. Leave the study, and go to the

Entrance Hall. Now leave the house and go outside.

​

Walk right one screen to the chicken coop. Click on some chicken feed

(behind the chicken coop) to feed the chickens. Now enter the coop,

grab a chicken, and automatically get a CHICKEN FEATHER.

​

Leave chicken coop, and walk left again, so you are back at the top of

the mountain. SAVE your game here. Slowly make your way down the

mountain path, until you reach the bottom.

​

​

 

 

 

LLEWDOR TOWN

​

At bottom of mountain path, wait a few moments. An eagle should fly

past, dropping a FEATHER as he does so. If the eagle doesn’t appear,

simply leave the screen, then return. Pick up the EAGLE FEATHER.

​

Keep an eye out for the Bandits, and avoid them if you can. If they

catch you, simply reload your game.

​

Now walk down twice, to The 3 Bears House. The bears should be

leaving their house. Enter house, and look at 3 bowls of porridge on the

table. Take the smallest (middle) bowl of PORRIDGE. Head upstairs to

the bedroom, and look at dresser in top-right corner. Open drawer, and

get the THIMBLE. Now leave the 3 Bears House. Look at the flowerbed,

and use THIMBLE on flowerbed to get DEW.

​

Walk right one screen. There’s a nice tree here, on the cliff top. Notice

the white speckles in the tree? That’s mistletoe - this is a mistletoe

tree. So go over to it, and get the MISTLETOE.

​

Walk down once, then walk onto the sandy area next to the sea, and

walk back up once. Use CUP with the ocean to get some OCEAN

WATER.

​

Walk down once, left once, and up 3 times, so you are back at foot of

the mountain path. SAVE your game here, and make your way up the

path.

 

 

 

MANANNAN’S HOUSE

​

Enter Mannannan’s house. Climb up stairs to the First Floor, and walk

right, into your bedroom. Pretty shabby, isn’t it? Specially compared to

Manannan’s luxury room. Anyway, you must hide everything that’s

magic-related, or Manannan will kill you. Item by item, click each of your

possessions (except for the BREAD) on your bed, to hide them. Now,

making sure you’re still carrying the BREAD, leave your bedroom.

​

Wait for Manannan to return (it could be a long wait). He’ll tell you he’s

hungry. Make your way to the Dining Room - he’s waiting for you there,

impatiently drumming his fingers on the table. Give him the BREAD.

​

Walk around for a while, until Manannan tells you he’s going to bed.

Goody, we can continue with our plans to escape. Go up to your bed-

room and retrieve all your items from under your bed. Now go back

downstairs, and leave the house. SAVE your game here. Carefully walk

down the mountain path, all the way to the bottom.

LLEWDOR TOWN

​

At bottom of mountain path, walk down one screen, and right one

screen, so you are in the town. Now stand outside the tavern.

​

Remember that Fly spell you prepared earlier? Now, we can have some

fun with it, but you have to be quick, so SAVE your game here. In your

inventory, use FLY WINGS with the MAGIC ROSE ESSENCE. Wow, you

really have turned into a fly!

​

You fly into the tavern, and hear the two bandits talking about their

hideout. Now you know, they have a secret entrance hidden in the tree.

You automatically fly out again, and turn back into human form.

​

Back outside, SAVE your game here. Walk left 2 screens to the acorn

tree. Search among the acorns until you find some dried ACORNS, and

pick them up. Now the acorn tree here conceals the bandits tree house

hideout. Look into the hole and base of the tree, then reach into the

hole at base of the tree to pull the rope ladder. If you hadn’t overheard

the bandits when you were a fly, you wouldn’t have known to do this.

Now SAVE your game here. Climb up the ladder to the tree house - if a

bandit is here, you automatically climb down again. Keep trying to

climb up the ladder, until the bandit is sleeping. Carefully take the

COIN PURSE from the table, where the bandit is sleeping (hee hee). If

you’ve been whacked by the bandits, all your stuff will be here in the

tree house. Go to bin at top-right and search the bin, then retrieve all

your items. Now leave the tree house and go back down the ladder.

​

Now you have money, thanks to those nasty bandits. Walk right twice,

and enter the Store. Look at the shelves, and click on FISH OIL, SALT,

POUCH, and LARD. You automatically pay the shopkeeper. Pet the dog

lying on the floor, to get some DOG HAIR. Now leave the shop.

​

Walk up twice, until you see the spider web. Imagine the spider that

spun a web this big (shudder!). In your inventory, combine EAGLE

FEATHER with MAGIC ROSE ESSENCE. Wow, you’ve turned into an

eagle! Watch as Eagle-Gwydion deals with the spider.

​

Now that the giant spider is gone, walk up into the cave she was

guarding (don’t worry, her web is gone now), and watch cutscene with

the Oracle. Wow… you are really… Alexander… son of King Graham of

Daventry. You are of royal blood. It’s a lot to take it. After the cutscene,

leave the cave. Now SAVE your game here.

​

Walk left 3 times, to the desert. Medusa will appear soon, so prepare

yourself. As soon as you’re on the desert screen, face towards the right,

but have your MIRROR ready to use. As soon as Medusa appears, click

the MIRROR on her, and she turns to stone. Also from this screen, take

SNAKE SKIN from the ground.

​

Walk down twice, to the screen with the rounded cactus. Now look

carefully, to see a tiny cactus next to it. Use KNIFE to cut the tiny

CACTUS.

​

Now walk up twice, right twice, and up once, so you are at the river.

Look at edge of the river, to see the sticky mud. Use SPOON with the

MUD, to get some DRIED MUD.

​

You should have all the ingredients you need now, so let’s get back to

Manannan. Walk down once, left once, down once, and right once, so

you are back at the mountain path. SAVE your game here, and climb

up the path.

MANANNAN’S HOUSE

​

At top of the path, enter house. Manannan is still sleeping in his bed,

thankfully. Enter the study, and use KEY to unlock cabinet at the

bottom left, and take the WAND. Exit the close-up. Push book in the

bookcase to open the trapdoor. Now SAVE your game here. Climb

down the stairs into the laboratory, and click on the magic book to

open it. Now you’re ready to prepare the spell that will deal with

Manannan once and for all.

Turning Another Into A Cat

Click on picture of cat, on the right-hand page to cast the spell.

You now have a magic COOKIE. Congratulations.

 

​

​

​

However, the cookie doesn’t look very appetising. You need to disguise

it, so that Manannan will eat it. In your inventory, combine the COOKIE

with the PORRIDGE. Yum, that looks much more appetising.

​

Leave the lab, and head back up to the study. Again, watch out for the

cat. Back in the study, you have to cover your tracks, so Manannan

won’t know what you’re up to. Pull book on the bookshelf to close the

trap door. Use KEY to unlock cabinet on the left, and return WAND to

the cabinet, then exit the close-up. Leave the study, and go to the

Entrance Hall.

​

Climb upstairs to the First Floor. Manannan is still sleeping in his bed.

Go right, into your bedroom. Click on your bed, and item-by-item, hide

all your possessions under your bed. Now leave your bedroom.

​

Wait for Manannan to wake up (yup, another long wait). Wait again for

him to tell you he’s going on a journey, and watch the cutscene as he

visits his brother Mordack.

​

Back at the house, Gwydion can continue his plan of escape. Go up to

your bedroom, and take all your items from under the bed. Now go

back down to the Study, and enter it.

​

In the Study, Use KEY to unlock cabinet at bottom left corner. Pull book

in bookshelf to open the trapdoor. Enter through trapdoor, and climb

down stairs to the bottom - remember to watch out for that cat.

​

Now lets prepare the remaining spells. SAVE your game here, then

click on spellbook to read it.

Becoming Invisible Spell

Click on picture of the eye, on the left-hand page to cast the spell.

You can now become invisible at will. Congratulations.

​

 

Teleporting At Random Spell

Click on picture that looks like a bottle, in middle left-hand page to

cast the spell.

You can now teleport at will. Congratulations.

​

 

Causing A Deep Sleep Spell

Click on picture of someone in bed, on the left-hand page to cast the

spell.

You can now cause someone to fall into a deep sleep. Congratulations.

​

 

Understanding The Language Of Animals Spell

Click on picture of the animal, on the right-hand page to cast the spell.

You can now understand what animals are saying. Congratulations.

Brewing A Storm Spell

Click on picture of the storm, on the right-hand page to cast the spell.

You can now brew a storm at will. Congratulations.

Well, that’s all the spells prepared. So leave the lab, and head back up

to the study. Again, watch out for the cat. Back in the study, you have

to cover your tracks, so Manannan won’t know what you’re up to. Pull

book on the bookshelf to close the trap door. Use KEY to unlock

cabinet on the left, and return WAND to the cabinet, then exit the

close-up. When everything’s back as it was, leave the study.

​

One of the spells you learnt was Understanding The Language Of

Animals. For a bit of fun, find Manannan’s cat, and kick him - he’ll talk

back to you.

​

Go up to your bedroom. Item-by-item, hide all your stuff (except the

PORRIDGE) under your bed. Now, making sure you’re still carrying the

PORRIDGE, walk around the house until Manannan returns.

​

He’s hungry again. He wants to be fed. Oh, we’ll feed him, alright (hee

hee). Go to the Dining Room - he’s there waiting for you. Give him the

PORRIDGE.

​

YIPPEE! Manannan can’t hurt you anymore! YOU’RE FREE! Now go up

to your bedroom, and retrieve all your items.

-

Leave the house, and SAVE your game here. Make your way down the

mountain path. This will be the last time you ever see this forsaken

mountain. Hurray!

​

 

 

 

 

LLEWDOR TOWN

​

At bottom of the path, walk down once, and right once, so you are in

the town. Enter tavern, and look at the sailors here. It seems they’re

about to set sail. Talk to sailors - the Captain offers you passage in his

ship, as long as you have gold. Give him your COIN PURSE. The Captain

snatches it from you, and tells you he’ll be waiting at the docks for you.

Him and his friends leave the tavern now. Leave the tavern.

​

Walk right twice, onto the pier. Now watch cutscene, as Gwydion

realises he’s sailing with a bunch of pirates!

​

​

​

  

PIRATE SHIP

​

You now find yourself in cargo hold of the ship. All your possessions are

gone (except for the magic dough in your ears that lets you understand

animals). Those lousy pirates robbed you blind!

​

Walk right - hey, there‘s Guybrush Threepwood. Nice nod to Monkey

Island! When you’ve finished talking to Guybrush, the rats should start

talking about a buried treasure. Now THAT sounds interesting!

​

There’s a small crate at front of screen. Pick up small CRATE, and walk

back left again. Place the small CRATE on the floor, next to the big

crate, and click on ladder to automatically climb up to the deck above,

which is where the Captain‘s Quarters are. If you see the captain here,

go back down below deck, then return here. When the captain is NOT

here, open large chest at bottom-left corner - you now have all your

possessions back again.

​

Now go back down below deck, and walk right to where you saw

Guybrush Threepwood. SAVE your game here.

​

Now you’ve got another long wait, I’m afraid. You can’t wander around

the ship, or the pirates will kill you. So stay here, in the cargo hold.

Listen out for the words ‘Land Ho, Captain.’ When you hear those

words, pour your POUCH OF SLEEP POWDER on the floor under the

grating. This should send everyone to sleep.

​

Walk left, then climb up the ladder to the deck above. Walk right, and

take SPADE from in front of the overturned boat. It’s not easy to spot,

but it’s there. Go left again, and climb up to the top deck.

​

On the top deck, walk right, and SAVE your game here. Now jump

overboard, then swim up, then swim right to shore (watch out for that

shark).

 

 

 

​

TREASURE ISLAND

 

On the island, walk right, and use your SPADE to dig just to the right of

the palms tree’s shadow. You find a CHEST full of treasure. You take

the CHEST with you.

​

Head up, then SAVE your game here. Follow upper-left path, and go

left one screen. Now walk up to the large boulder, and click the Walk

icon in it climb up it. Follow path to the right, then follow path to top

of the mountain.

​

SAVE your game, then follow path round to where water is trickling

down the mountain. Click Walk icon on the water to climb up it.

​

In the snowy mountain-tops, walk right to the cave, and SAVE your

game here. Ignore the cave, and walk right again to next screen. Dip

your EAGLE FEATHER into the ROSE PETAL ESSENCE, to turn into an

eagle. The Abominable Snowman appears, but is confused by your

eagle-status, and so he leaves again. After he’s gone, you

automatically change back to human form. SAVE your game here, and

head down path on the left.

​

You find yourself at the top of a network of caves. SAVE your game

here. Use the Walk icon to lower yourself down to the ledge directly

below you - the cave at the top-left. Enter cave. And emerge on the

top-right. SAVE your game here. Walk to left edge of this ledge, and

climb left a bit and down a bit, until you are on the centre ledge. Enter

cave, and emerge at the bottom-left. SAVE your game here. Make your

way right, over that pile of rocks. Enter this next cave, and emerge on

the bottom-right. Now SAVE your game, and walk right to next screen.

​

Continue right 2 screens, then follow path down. You’ll fall off a cliff -

don’t worry about that. This cliff marks your arrival in Daventry.

​

 

 

 

DAVENTRY

​

SAVE your game here. Enter the cave if you want, but you can’t do

anything. When you’re ready, go left to the old well. Head up, and talk

to the gnome. He’ll tell you a bit more about Daventry, and your sister

Rosella.

​

Go back down to the well, then right to the cave. Now enter the cave.

And leave by the bottom-right corner.

​

SAVE your game here. Follow the twisting path, SAVING frequently,

until you arrive at top of the mountain.

​

SAVE your game again. To the left is the huge fire-breathing dragon.

You can’t let it see you! Use INVISIBILITY POTION (yellowish bottle) on

yourself to turn invisible, then go left to see the dragon. Use STORM

BREW POTION (blackish bottle) on the dragon, causing lightning to

strike the evil dragon, killing it dead.

​

Untie Rosella, and tell her you’re her long-lost twin brother. Now sit

back and enjoy the final, joyous cutscene.

​
