QUEST FOR GLORY III: WAGES OF WAR
WALKTHROUGH - FIGHTER (PART 1)
This walkthrough was written by Frodo for The Hero's Glory
TIPS FOR FIGHTERS
As you create your character, give most of the points to Comms. The
better you can communicate with others, then better you can Bargain
with them when purchasing items.
INTRODUCTION
The intro cut-scene shows your show-down with Ad Avis from the
last game, and then goes on to show how you came to be in Tarna -
Rakeesh‘s homeland. The intro is skippable, if you want to dive
straight into the game. But it’s good to watch it at least once.
TARNA
Welcome to Tarna.
After Uhura leaves, you begin your adventures in Kreesha & Rakeesh’s
home. Look around their home if you like - it’s a beautiful place. Use
Mouth Icon on yourself and Greet Kreesha, then Tell About Shapier.
Talk to Rakeesh and work through all the topics. Talk to Kreesha and
work through all the topics. Have a look at your Inventory, and note
that Shema gave you a LETTER TO SHALLAH before you left Shapier.
When you’re ready, leave Kreesha’s home - as you are leaving,
Kreesha tells you she has booked a room for you at the nearby inn.
Outside Kreesha’s home, climb up stairs to the next screen, then
climb up more stairs (on the right), and enter the Temple Of
Sekhmet. Walk around the temple, and after a few seconds, an angry
liontaur priestess will tell you to leave, since humans shouldn’t be in
this temple. However, the statue of Sekhmet comes alive, and gives
you a quest to find the GEM OF THE GUARDIAN so that you may be
judged. Now leave the temple.
Climb down stairs on the left, so you are next to Kreesha’s home
again, but don’t enter. Walk down some more stairs and head left to
the next area.
You’ve entered the bazaar - a wonderful marketplace where you can
buy so many wonderful items. The Junk Dealers are right at the
beginning of the bazaar - talk to them and work through all the
topics. Now use Talk Icon on yourself, and try to Buy Junk Goods.
Unfortunately your money is no good here. You need to visit the
Money Changer, to change it to the local currency. You can talk to the
other stall-holders if you like, but they’ll all say the same thing - they
won’t accept your money. SAVE YOUR GAME HERE, then head up,
further into the bazaar.
As you enter the North end of the bazaar, you witness a dispute. A
thief steals from the Money Changer, and tries to make his escape.
Quickly set your Walk-Mode to run, and chase after him. You won’t
be able to catch him, but the guard who DOES catch him asks you to
come to the Hall Of Judgement, since you aided the guards. The thief
is declared ‘Honourless’ - the full extent of that sentencing will
become apparent later on.
You are taken to King Rajah’s chambers. Rajah is Rakeesh’s brother.
As soon as you are able, use the Talk Icon on yourself, and use the
following responses:
Greet
Answer Rajah
Defend Rakeesh
Talk About Rakeesh
Say Goodbye
You now leave Rajah’s chamber’s. Wow, what magnificent chambers
he has. Talk to the guards and work through all the topics. Now,
let’s get back to the task at hand - changing your money into local
currency. Walk down the stairs and head left twice, so you are back
in bazaar.
From the Junk Dealers in the Bazaar, walk up one screen, to where
you saw the thief. The Money Changer is in his stall on the left. Talk
to him and work through all the topics. Now click your MONEY
POUCH on him, and exchange your 200 DINARS into 180 ROYALS.
Now you’re ready to buy stuff. You’re just starting out, so you need
to be careful with your money,. Talk to the Leather Merchant and
work through all the topics (talking to people improves your
Communication Skills). Now use the Talk Icon on yourself and Make
Purchase. Select WATER SKIN, change the quantity to 3, then
Bargain over the price - offer 150 COMMONS, then barter over the
price until you’re both happy, then Purchase the item. Talk to the
Fruit Merchant, work through all the topics, but don’t buy anything
from him. Now head right (or head back down again - you end up in
the same place), so you are back to the start of the bazaar.
Talk to the Weapons Merchant and work through all the topics, but
don’t buy anything from him yet. Talk to the Oil Merchant and work
through all the topics, but don’t buy anything from him. Talk to the
Junk Dealers, and if you haven’t already, work through all the topics.
Now use Talk Icon on yourself and Buy Junk Goods. Select the
TINDER BOX, then Bargain over the price - offer 150 COMMONS,
then barter over the price until you are both happy, then Purchase the
item. Talk to the Honey Merchant and work through all the topics.
Now use Talk Icon on yourself and Buy HONEY. Bargain for the price,
offer 50 COMMONS, barter over the price until you are both happy,
then Purchase the item. Now walk down into another section of the
bazaar.
Talk to the Bead Merchant and work through all the topics. Now use
Talk Icon on yourself and Buy Beads. You can try and barter over the
price if you like, but the Bead Seller won’t budge - her BEADS are 95
COMMONS, so just purchase them. Talk to the Fish Merchant and
work through all the topics, but don’t buy anything from him yet.
Talk to the Rope Merchant and work through all the topics, but don’t
buy anything from him yet. Continue down into the bazaar.
Talk to the Katta Wood Carving Merchant and work through all the
topics. Wait… this Katta is named Shallah - this is Shema‘s nephew!
Use Talk Icon on yourself, then Greet him and Tell About Shapier.
Now give him your LETTER TO SHALLAH. Click your MONEY POUCH
on him, and buy a WOODEN LEAPORD - since you gave him the
letter, he‘ll give you the carving for free. That’s nice of him. Talk to
the Meat Merchant and work through all the topics. Now use Talk
Icon on yourself and Buy Meat. Here’s where you can get some food
rations for dirt-cheap! Change the quantity to 20, then Bargain over
the price. Offer 1 COMMON, and the Meat Seller will accept (poor
Meat Seller!). You can come back here and get more rations at any
time. Now talk to the Jewellery Merchant and work through all the
topics, but don’t buy anything from him. Talk to the Cloth Merchant
and work through all the topics, but don’t buy anything from her. You
can try and talk to the drummer if you like, but he doesn’t understand
you. However, click your MONEY POUCH on the drummer to give him
some COMMONS.
This is all you can do in the bazaar for now. Walk up twice, then right
once, so you are outside the bazaar.
Now there are 3 buildings here - Kreesha & Rakeesh’s home is on the
right. Enter the middle building (with the plants on top) to find your-
self in the Apothecary. Salim runs this Apothecary, and he’s quite a
character! Talk to him and work through all the topics. When you ask
him about the tree, he tells you about the dream he’s been having
about a tree-woman. If you played QFG2, you’ll know this is Julanar.
Now use Talk Icon on yourself, and Say Hello, then Tell About Julanar.
Now since you’re in the Apothecary, you should buy some stuff. Use
Talk Icon on yourself and Make Purchase. Select HEALING PILLS,
change the quantity to 2, and Bargain the price. Offer 5 ROYALS,
then barter over the price until you are both happy, then Purchase
the item. Now select POISON CURE PILLS, change the quantity to 2,
and Bargain the price. Offer 10 ROYALS, then barter over the price
until you are both happy, then Purchase the item. That will do for
now - you can come back for the other pills later. Now leave the
Apothecary.
Enter Kreesha’s home on the right. Talk to her, and work through all
the dialogue. Rakeesh isn’t here right now - he’s talking with King
Rajah. But it’s nice to talk with her, so you know what’s going on.
When you’re ready, leave her home. As you leave, Kreesha reminds
you that Rakeesh will be making a pledge of peace before the
Council, and you must stay within a day’s travel, so that you can
attend this meeting.
Check the time. Explore Tarna until evening, when the stall holders
pack up for the day. I don’t recommend you leave Tarna at this
point.
When it’s evening, return to the area with Kreesha’s home and the
Apothecary. Enter building on the left. This is the Welcome Inn -
this is where you can have meals, and sleep for the night. Be aware
that while your room is free, you still have to pay for meals. Look at
the Quest Board, and look at the notices on the board, then Exit the
board. Now sit down on the empty cushion. Talk to the Welcome
Woman and work through all the topics. Now use Talk Icon on your-
self, and Say Hello, Tell About Shapier, Flirt with her if you like, then
Order Meal. Use Order Meal last, since that will end your dialogue.
After your meal, stand up and climb up stairs on the right to go to
your room.
In your room, click on your bed, and Sleep Til Morning.
After a peaceful night’s sleep, you awaken the next morning feeling
very refreshed. Leave your room.
In the restaurant area, click on the empty cushion to sit down. Talk
to the Welcome Woman and work through all the topics. Now use
Talk Icon on yourself, Flirt with her, and then Order Meal. After your
breakfast, stand up, and leave the inn.
Enter the Apothecary. Salim will ask about Julanar, so use Talk Icon
on yourself and Tell About Julanar. He’s excited to know that the
woman from his dreams is actually real! Now leave the Apothecary.
Head right to the next screen. This is the Main Entrance of Tarna.
Talk to both guards and work through all the topics. When
conversation is over, SAVE YOUR GAME HERE. Now climb down the
steps.
WILDERNESS
You now see the Overview Map screen. This gives you access to all
other areas. You are indicated by a little white dot, and your travel
path is indicated by red dots. Make your way to an area on the lower-
right of the screen with 2 rocks (see Map 1). It’s hard to identify,
which is why it’s a good idea to have saved your game before you left
Tarna. Anyway, when you find this area, you’ll see some poisoned
vines and some meerbats. The vines contain fruit, and the meerbats
are playing ‘Tag‘ with the vines. Don’t approach the vines - they are
poisoned and they will hurt you. Leave the area, then immediately
return. The meerbats are still playing ‘Tag‘, but this time, one of the
little critters gets caught in the vines. Poor little thing! Maybe you
could help him? Pick up some ROCKS from the ground, and throw
ROCKS at the vine to make it release the meerbat. Leave the area
again, and then immediately return again. The little meerbat you
saved is watching out for you, and has collected some things that he
leaves for you, before diving into the safety of his hole. Take the
FIRE OPAL and take VINE FRUIT the meerbat left for you, then leave
this area again.
Remember that Rakeesh will appear before the Council tomorrow, so
make your way back to Tarna. If it’s late enough, the game will
automatically take you back to Tarna, anyway.
TARNA
Head for the Welcome Inn, and go up to your room to sleep for the
night.
After a peaceful night’s sleep, you awaken early next morning, and
head for the meeting with the Council. Rakeesh pledges himself to
bring peace to Tarna. You are asked if you will also Swear The Oath,
so say Yes.
You and Rakeesh, once again, find yourself in Rajah’s chambers. As
soon as you are able, use the Talk Icon on yourself, and use the
following responses:
Greet
Talk about Honour
Tell about Rakeesh
Say Goodbye
Watch the cut scene, as you and Rakeesh travel to the Simbani
Village.
SIMBANI VILLAGE
The village Elder, Mzee Mngoje, greets you, then Rakeesh takes you
down into the village, to be reunited with Uhura. After a brief
conversation, Uhura will take you to meet the Laibon (the Simbani
leader). Just like Rajah, you must show the Laibon respect. As soon
as you are able, click the Talk Icon on yourself, and Greet the Laibon.
Now Talk to the Laibon and work through all the topics. After some
conversation, the Laibon will ask you to leave. Eventually, you and
Rakeesh will end up in the guest hut - this guest hut offers a safe
place to sleep whenever you like. Rakeesh tells you he will be leaving,
and returning to Tarna, at first light. Talk to him, and work through
all the topics. Now use Talk Icon on yourself, and Tell About Day,
then Say Goodnight. Saying Goodnight triggers the end of the day,
and you and Rakeesh go to sleep for the night.
The next morning, true to his word, Rakeesh has already gone by the
time you wake up. You’re free to explore the Simbani village on your
own. SAVE YOUR GAME HERE, then leave the guest hut.
When you leave the hut, you find yourself in the campfire area - this is
the centre of the Simbani village. Your hut (the guest hut) is on the
left, Uhura’s hut is on the right, and the Laibon’s hut is in the middle.
You can’t enter the Laibon’s or Uhura’s hut at this point.
Walk straight up either side of the Laibon’s hut, to meet his son,
Yesufu. Yesufu is sitting next to a big rock, with a wooden cage
nearby. However, it’s very easy to miss this area, and accidentally
find yourself in one of the training areas. If this happens, just walk
left or right to find Yesufu. Use Talk Icon on yourself, and Greet
Yesufu, then Talk About Shapier. Now talk to him and work through
all the topics. Play a game of Awari with him. I don’t quite under-
stand how to play this game, but it’s useful to attempt it with
Yesufu, just the same. As you are playing, click on Yesufu’s portrait,
and ask him about all the topics. Also, click in the black area to Tell
About Spielburg and Tell About Peace.
When you’ve finished talking and playing Awari with Yesufu, walk left
to the spear training area. Being a fighter, you need to be able to
throw well. SAVE YOUR GAME HERE, then click on the spears.
Uhura will appear - talk to her and work through all the topics, and
she tells you how to throw a spear. Now pick up a spear, and throw it
at the target. Uhura encourages you, and gives you tips. Keep
practicing until you get tired. When you are tired, go to the guest
hut, and Rest For 60 Minutes, then return left to the spear training
area. At some point, Uhura will challenge you to see who can throw a
spear better. Use Talk Icon on yourself, and Accept Challenge. You
probably won’t beat her, since you are still very inexperienced with
throwing the spear, but it’s good practice. Now continue practising
your spear-throwing until evening.
When it gets dark, go and visit Uhura in her hut. Talk to her and work
through all the topics. Now leave her hut.
Go back to your guest hut, and Sleep Til Morning.
A new day arrives in the Simbani village. At some point, the Simbani
people will capture a Leapordman. Go to Yesufu’s area, where the
cage is, to keep checking. When the Leapordman has been captured,
talk to Yesufu and work through all the topics. You can try and talk
to the Leapordman if you like, but he won’t talk to you. Until the
Leapordman has been caught, there’s not much to do in this area.
From the cage, walk left to the spear training area.
Pick up a spear, and throw it at the target. Keep practising until you
get tired, then go back to your guest hut and Rest For 60 Minutes.
Then return here. Repeat this until it gets dark.
At the end of this day, the village Elder gathers everyone around the
campfire, and tells the story of how their Spear Of Death was stolen.
Stay and listen to the story. When the story is over, you
automatically go back to your guest hut and sleep for the night.
When morning comes, leave your hut. Enter the Laibon’s hut - the
guard lets you in this time. Remember to be polite. Click Talk Icon on
yourself, and Greet the Laibon. Look at the drum he has next to him.
Now talk to him and work through all the topics - make sure you ask
about the spear and the drum. The Laibon soon asks you to leave.
Spend the day training in the spear area, and get your Throwing Skills
up to at least 220. When evening comes, return to your hut and
Sleep Till Morning.
Another morning comes. Now you’ve spent a few days training with
the spear, so you’re getting pretty good at that. However, as a
warrior, you must also be able to tackle the Wrestling Bridge. Go to
the cage area, and this time, walk right to the Bridge area, and SAVE
YOUR GAME HERE. This is the Wrestling Bridge, and you can
practice your Balance here. Climb up the bridge - Uhura will appear.
Talk to her, and work through all the topics. Now climb up the bridge
and walk across to the other side. Uhura now shows you the finer
details of balancing on the bridge when there is someone else on
there as well. After she leaves, practise crossing the bridge a few
times. Now if you have Skill Level set to High, you will also have to
practice Jumping, Ducking, Turning Left and Turning Right. Spend a
few days practising these skills. I had Skill Level set to low, so I didn’t
have to worry about this. When you’ve had enough of the bridge,
leave the area.
You’ve been in the Simbani village for a few days now, but you can‘t
stay here forever! You have a war to prevent! Head up to the village
Elder, talk to him, and work through all the topics. SAVE YOUR
GAME HERE. Now head out into the wilderness.
WILDERNESS
Head down to the Pool Of Peace at bottom of the screen.
POOL OF PEACE
This is a beautiful area, and anyone can find peace here. It offers you
another place of safety to sleep, whenever you need, and the pool
heals any aches and pains you may have, as well as restoring your
stamina.
Take a drink from the pool, and then fill up all your WATERSKINS
from the pool. Now SAVE YOUR GAME HERE, and head back out
into the Wilderness.
WILDERNESS
Okay, you have 2 areas where you can sleep safely - the Simbani
Village, and the Pool Of Peace.
As a fighter, you should try to find and defeat each of the following
monsters. Remember to search their bodies afterwards. Also, Save
your game after each victory.
Giant Ant
Croc (search body for ROYALS and COMMONS)
Dinosaur (take HORN from the body)
Flying Cobra
You may not find them all straight away, but keep them in mind.
You’ll find them all sooner or later.
Anyway, the Wilderness is not just about monster-hunting.
Remember, Salim (from the Apothecary) told you about the Honey-
bird feather. You need to find the Honeybird. Hope you bought some
HONEY from the bazaar.
In the same section as the Pool Of Peace, search the upper-left area
of this map (see Map 2), until you find the Honeybird. Sometimes it
can be hard to find, but keep looking. Follow it right (but don’t over-
take it) twice, until it settles in the tree full of bees. Pour some
HONEY on the ground, and then leave the area, but immediately
return. The Honeybird is happily playing in the HONEY. Approach
the bird, and it will fly away, but it will leave behind a FEATHER. Take
the FEATHER, and then leave the area.
Head right into the next section of the map.
In this new section, you’ll see a giant tree in the upper-right area.
Head for that tree now.
HEART OF THE WORLD
This tree is known as The Heart Of The World, and it’s another area of
safety for you. Make your way up into the tree, and enter a cave just
past the waterfall.
A sphere of energy lives in this cave. After a few seconds, the sphere
will ‘surround’ you, and tell you she is the Guardian. When you are
able, use Talk Icon on yourself, and work through all the topics. Also,
Greet, Answer Guardian, Tell About Shapier, and Tell About Water.
Make sure you ask about the GEM, and then take a GEM (but only
one!) from the circle left by the Guardian. When you’re ready, leave
the cave.
Continue up the tree, until you reach the very top. This area is
another safe place to sleep, and will heal all your aches and pains,
and restore your stamina. Anyway, if you have any WATERSKINS
containing water from the Pool Of Peace, pour that water onto the
spiral platform, and be rewarded with a GIFT FROM THE HEART.
Check the time, and if it’s getting late, you can Sleep Till Morning.
Make your way back down to the base of the tree, and SAVE YOUR
GAME HERE. Now head back out into the wilderness.
WILDERNESS
Go right to the next section of the map. This is the last section. Walk
around for a while, until you find a monkey trapped in a cage. This is
little Manu. Free him. He’ll run straight up into the nearest tree. Talk
to him and work through all the topics, before he leaves to return to
his own monkey-village. Leave the area.
Head left two screens, and return to The Pool Of Peace.
POOL OF PEACE
Take a drink of water, and fill all your WATERSKINS with water from
the pool. Check the time, and if it’s late, spend the night here. Now
SAVE YOUR GAME HERE, and head back out to the Wilderness.
WILDERNESS
Head left one screen, and make your way back to Tarna.
TARNA
Go up all the stairs, to the very top of the pyramid, and enter the
Temple Of Sekhmet. The statue of Sekhmet senses you have the
GEM OF THE GUARDIAN, so you are given a drink that knocks you
out, so you are ready to be judged. You are asked questions, and you
have to pick a symbol\answer for each question. As a fighter, answer
like so:
CHOOSE THAT WHICH YOU WERE
Sword
THE PHARAOH HAS CALLED FOR WAR. WHAT DO YOU DO?
4. Ask the Pharaoh about the cause of the war
CHOOSE THAT WHICH YOU ARE
Fist
YOU ARE RULER OF A SMALL LAND
4. Investigate the situation
CHOOSE THAT WHICH YOU WILL BE
Sword or Ankh
THREE SWORDS STAND BEFORE YOU
4. Silver hilt
You have been judged worthy. Listen to the judgement - it is a
prophecy of what is to come.
You wake up in your room in the Welcome Inn. Go downstairs, sit on
the empty cushion at the table. The Welcome Woman will come -
use Talk Icon on yourself and Order Meal. After breakfast, stand up
and leave the Welcome Inn.
Go to the Apothecary, and talk to Salim and work through all the
topics. Now use Talk Icon on yourself and Tell About everything.
Now give HEART OF THE WORLD, WATER FROM POOL OF PEACE,
HONEYBIRD FEATHER (he gives you some HEALING PILLS as a
‘thank you‘), and VENEMOUS VINE FRUIT to Salim. Now leave the
Apothecary.
Head down the stairs on the left, and make your way into the Bazaar.
There is some stuff you will need later, and buying it now will save
you coming back later for it. Use your COIN POUCH on the Weapons
Merchant. Select FINE DAGGER and Bargain over the price. Offer 8
ROYALS, then find a price you are both happy with, and Purchase the
item. Select FINE SPEAR and Bargain over the price. Offer 8
ROYALS, then find a price you are both happy with, and Purchase the
item. Leave the Weapons Seller, and go up into next area of the
bazaar.
Use your MONEY POUCH on the Leather Merchant. Select the
ZEBRA SKIN, change the Quantity to 5, and Bargain over the price.
Offer 2 ROYALS, then find a price you are both happy with, and
Purchase the item. Since you are here, also select the WATER SKIN,
change quantity to 2, and Bargain over the price. Offer 150
COMMONS, then find a price you are both happy with, and Purchase the item. Now leave the Weapons Merchant, and head down 3
screens.
Use your MONEY POUCH on the Meat Merchant. Remember, this is
where you can get some RATIONS dirt-cheap. Change quantity to 30
(this should last you the rest of the game), and Bargain over the
price. And offer 1 COMMON. The Merchant will accept, so Purchase
the item. Now use your MONEY POUCH on the Cloth Merchant.
Select the FINE ROBE and Purchase it (unfortunately, you can’t
bargain for a better deal here). Now walk back up one screen, to
where the Rope Merchant is.
The thief who was declared ‘Honourless’ approaches you, and asks
you for help. He wants you to meet him in the evening, after the
bazaar stall-holders have left for the day. Use Talk Icon on yourself
and agree to meet with him. Keep an eye on the time, and when
evening comes, meet up with the thief in the empty bazaar. Talk to
him, and work through all the topics. The consequences of being
‘Without Honour’ are really hitting him hard, and he’s glad to have
someone to talk to. Show some compassion - give him a MEAT
JERKY RATION. This is all you can do him right now, so tell him
Goodbye, then leave the bazaar.
Enter Kreesha & Rakeesh’s home, and find them in the back parlour
(it’s so sweet to find them cuddled up like that!). Talk to Rakeesh
and work through all the topics. Talk to Kreesha and work through all
the topics. Now use Talk Icon on yourself, and Tell About Tarna, and
Tell About Prisoner. Finally, Say Farewell to leave their room, and
then leave Kreesha’s home.
Go to the Welcome Inn, and sit on the empty cushion. The Survivor
may show up as well. Talk to the Welcome Woman and Order Meal.
After supper, talk to the Survivor, and work through all the topics.
The poor man is badly traumatised, and can’t talk for long. When he
has fallen asleep, stand up, and climb up the stairs to your room.
Click on the bed and Sleep Till Morning.
The next morning, after a peaceful night’s sleep, leave your room and
go down to the restaurant area. Sit on the empty cushion. When the
Welcome Woman comes, Order Meal. After breakfast, stand up and
leave the Welcome Inn.
Go back to the Apothecary. Salim tells you he has the DISPEL
POTIONS ready. Click your MONEY POUCH on Salim and select
DISPEL POTION. Purchase (don’t try to Bargain) the DISPEL
POTION - Salim gives you the potions for free, since he is still happy
that you told him about Julanar. Now since you are here, you should
stock up on some pills. Select HEALING PILLS, change Quantity to 2,
and Bargain over the price. Offer 5 ROYALS, then find a price you’re
both happy with, and Purchase the item. Select POISON CURE
PILLS, change Quantity to 2, and Bargain over the price. Offer 10
ROYALS, then find a price you’re both happy with, and Purchase the
item. Now leave the Apothecary.
Return to Kreesha & Rakeesh’s home, and find them in the back
parlour. Talk to Rakeesh and work through all the topics. Talk to
Kreesha and work through all the topics. Now use Talk Icon on
yourself and Say Goodbye to leave them. Now leave their home.
Do whatever you like for today - walk around Tarna and talk to
everyone, or head off into the Wilderness to hunt monsters. If you
choose to explore the wilderness, make sure you stay close to Tarna.
Keep an eye on the time, and when evening rolls in, return to Tarna.
Go to the empty bazaar, and find the ‘Honourless’ thief in the same
place you saw him before. Use Talk Icon on yourself, and Tell About
Mission. Now give him a MEAT JERKY RATION, then leave him for
today.
Go back to the Welcome Inn and sit down on the empty cushion.
When the Welcome Woman comes, use Talk Icon on yourself and
Order Meal. After supper, stand up, and climb upstairs to your room.
Click on the bed and Sleep Till Morning.
